Sometimes the best ideas come to you on-the-fly. Truth be told, I completely forgot about this month’s mix for LYL Radio. For the first time in a good long while, I had been strapped for time, making space to plan for a long vacation. So, if I had to carve out time for it, it had to be something that I could look forward to enjoying fully when I actually hit the road and had time to fully digest it myself. In the end, there will be time for moodier bits.
On this one, I had enough time to actually concoct something special but, somewhere, down the line I took what was my original mix and started to unravel it altogether. Heady, spacier tracks were replaced with more soulful, joyful ones. Space was given to really ride a mood out.
In my head as I was mixing and recording this out I kept thinking of the joy one felt just lounging next to the pool. As I kept x’ing out originally playlisted tracks for even more joyful ones, I forgot about track lengths, keys, and stuff of that nature, I got into a musical headspace that I rode out until the hour’s end, surprising even myself that I ended it within the allotted time.
In the end, I felt good about this one as it just poured out of me. It is my hope you enjoy it, preferably by the pool, as that vision led me to move it to.
No matter where you are, no matter how landlocked you are, the sight of a pool should bring you some joy. In my opinion, nothing beats jumping into one on a warm summer’s day. Likewise, nothing beats cheating that “summer feeling” more than jumping into a heated one on a cool winter’s day. Relaxing and inviting, I truly feel liberated from many things when I’m just chilling somewhere poolside. Now, if you have music that can be your swim buddy and affect that feeling — heck, even better.
So, enough of my yapping. Time to get wet…
