As 2023 comes to an end, I feel compelled to do something out of the norm. Looking back, I think I could have done more to open up a line of communication that’s been lacking for a while. I believe that a well thought out mix can do so many things. The best mixes can illuminate and marinate in your mind, long after they’ve stopped playing. Yet, as many loyal readers have noticed, it’s been forever since you’ve heard anything curated by me.
I say this because I’ve been the fortunate recipient of some truly memorable guest mixes this year. As I’ve shifted my focus more on writing, I’ve ceded that space to others so that they could be my guest to express their taste in music. It’s something that I look forward to continue sharing.
But as you all know, you all know how my old noodle works…somewhere, in the back of my head, there’s still that music grindstone grinding, separating the wheat from the shaft, thinking ahead on how I can share certain things at a future time. So with the year drawing down, I feel the urge to take advantage of a bit of holiday breathing room and express more of myself through music, to once again touch on some auld lang syne. Gone are the excuses. I’ve got space right here to do so.
Fate-permitting, we’ll pick up our conversation sometime again in the New Year.
