Mix: 35. Japanese Healing Music

Certain things aren’t lost on me. Whenever I look at my time slot at LYL Radio I feel a sense of responsibility. Each month on Wednesday, I end their programming day. For some, it’s 11 PM Paris time. While for others (like myself) it’s 4 PM Central Standard time. While one part of the world is getting ready to fall asleep, the other is winding down, heading back home (hopefully) from a long day at work. You’ve had time to enjoy at LYL all that hot techno, garage, post-punk, EBM and whatever more, is blazing up the setlists of many an influencer. So you can image how much I like to dial it back once the wonderful Ms. Agnès Aves’ Mercure Rétrograde show is over. Hers is that elsewhere. Now, I feel, it’s time to heal. Now it’s time to go elsewhere. This is the what I’m offering on my show.

For this hour I dug deeper into my collection of Japanese healing music. There I found songs that take advantage of sonic space to simply let you, the listener, breathe. Lower BPMs signal to your headspace and circulatory system to dial it back more than a few notches. In the past (somewhere in the hustle and bustle of Tokyo), young professionals and older, forgotten, heavily trodden down retirees would travel within the city to sound bars or sound spas to choose from a selection of curated/tuned audio libraries offering various moods to get lost in. Although not quite a trip to through a healing forest of sound, it’s a sound forest within the realm of their ears.

On this episode of Digging Deep, my mix for LYL Radio tries to capture some of the vibe you’d get with an hour of time spent there. Using Japanese ambient, new age, fourth world, binaural, alpha wave 1/f fluctuation, and environmental music let’s see if we can try to ameliorate some of the hectic world we face out beyond our two headphones and/or speakers — at least for this hour find your bliss…
