Mix: 49. The Color Of Memory

I’ve got a confession to make: I rarely dream. I know that’s an odd thing to state but it’s true. When I sleep I find that it’s rare that I can remember my dreams or even if I dreamt at all. Strangely enough, my latest mix for Digging Deep at LYL Radio seems to be an exploration of how I think I do dream.

Maybe some of you are much like me. I’ll call myself a daydreamer. If I know myself, I know I need triggers to set my mind off elsewhere. Art, a conversation, a good book, or a novel idea seems to stir those wandering visions. However, music (since my adolescence) has been a large source I can draw from to instantly start drifting away, mentally.

My aim for this mix was to present a set of music you can use to take you close to that there that it takes me. As dreaming can be used to trigger a state of recharge and recalibration, so too I think you can find something in this music to reimagine some of the thoughts around you. And dreams have a way of coloring our memory in ways that we’ve yet to imagine.

I just keep thinking of those first dreams we all have. In the womb all we have to go on is that distant drum from of our mother. Somewhere, through that primordial, floating world there’s that gentle music guiding us to think bigger. So, here’s something for those that want to go back and dream a little dream with me…
