Mix: 73. Hymn

First of all: thank you. I can’t thank y’all enough for all the kind thoughts you’ve all sent me since my father passed away and I had to take some time off from writing here. As I put the blog on pause during this “mental health” break, I was able to take in that space and use it to go back as a listener, sussing out with no bias what kind of music moved me now. On my latest Digging Deep mix for LYL Radio what you’re listening to is the kind of music I caught myself gravitating towards, during certain quiet moments in life.

They’re songs like Kevin Ayers’s “Hymn” or Van Morrison’s “Higher Than The World”. Without getting into too much navel-gazing, I felt that a confluence of feelings kept spurring me to dig deeper into the more “introspective” side of my music collection. I needed something that touched on empowerment, that waxed on the more nebulous things of life, that valued kindness of all sorts. Forget whether something was a known commodity or not: I wanted something para você e para mim

In the future, as I try to reimagine what our conversation can lead to from here, I think it’s dawning on me that a new north star might be somewhere out in the horizon. However, for now, I’m happy to circle back, speaking in a language we can all understand.
